Tuesday, March 15, 2011

The CEC held several meetings with representatives of political parties to discuss the voters’ list of the Jerusalem suburbs: Kufr Aqab, Anata, Al- Za'eem, Al-ram, Sheikh Sa’ad, East Sawahrah, Qalandia, and Beit Hanina.

The CEC updated the political parties on the progress of the registration process.  It also discussed the best ways to produce a voters list that accurately reflects the residents of these suburbs.

The meeting ended with the agreement to maintain the current voters list, which was previously prepared for general elections, and to add the names newly registered during the recent voter registration period.

The representatives of the parties were also introduced to the mechanisms of the challenge and exhibition process, which is scheduled to take place from April 9th  to 13th. According to the law and the CEC’s procedures, the voters list will be finalized during this period.

The present parties agreed that all political parties and civil society institutions should cooperate with the CEC in order to make the local elections, scheduled to be held on July 9th, run smoothly and effectively.
