The Cabinet of the Palestinian National Authority
Cabinet decision No.(01/90/13/C/PA) of 2011 on
the postponement of local council elections
Based on:
the powers invested in us by law,
the recommendation of the Minister of Local Government,
and for the sake of public interest,
and having reviewed:
the amended Basic Law of 2003 and its further amendments,
Local Council Elections Law No. (10) of 2005 and its further amendments,
Local Authorities Law No. (1) of 1997 and its further amendments,
Law by Decree No. (1) of 2007 on general elections,
Cabinet Decision No. (01/82/13/C/PA) of 2011,
the letter from the Chairman of the Central Elections Commission on the local elections of 2011,
the Cabinet has decided in its session of 17 May 2011 the following:
Article One
To postpone the local council elections originally scheduled for 9 July 2011 and to hold those elections on Saturday, 22 October 2011, across all Palestinian districts on the same day, in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Article Two
To assign the Central Elections Commission the responsibility of undertaking all necessary procedures to successfully conduct local council elections on the date assigned above.
Article Three
To assign the Minister of Local Government to follow up on the organization and execution of elections with the Central Elections Commission on behalf of the Cabinet.
Article Four
All that contradicts the provisions of this decision is hereby annulled.
Article Five
All concerned bodies–each within its jurisdiction–shall implement the provisions of this decision. The decision shall come into force upon its issuance and shall be published in the official gazette.
