The CEC issues its decisions on objections to nominations of electoral lists and candidates

The CEC held a final meeting on Saturday, September 3^th at its premises in Al-Bireh to review and decide on the objections to nominations submitted during the three- day objections period concluded last Wednesday following the publishing of the preliminary register of candidate lists.

During this period the CEC received a total of 163 objections to the nomination of electoral lists and candidates in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The CEC has accepted some objections and rejected others pursuant to the provisions of the elections law.

Today, the CEC will inform relevant parties of its decisions. CEC decisions may be appealed before the Court of First Instance in each district within three days of receiving notifications. The Court will adjudicate appeals and issue its final rules within five days of submission of appeals.

The CEC considers objections to its decisions as a good indicator to the integrity, transparency and democracy of the electoral process and reflects adherence to elections laws by all stakeholders.

It should be indicated that the final register of nominated lists and candidates will be published on September 24th coinciding with the commencement of election campaigning.
