Basel Alqasem

Today, the CEC announced the completion of the annual voter registry update culminated with the issuance of the latest updated version of the voters’ registry for 2016. The total number of registered voters has reached 2,006,064 voters representing 78.5% of the total number of eligible voters until 31 March 2016.

The total number of registered voters in the West Bank now stands at 1,174,728 voters with a registration percentage of 74.9% against 831,336 voters in Gaza representing 84.3% of registered voters.

According to registry data analysis based on gender and age, there is no big variation between male and female registrants. The number of registered females has reached 983,557 voters, representing 49.03% of the total number of registered voters, whereas male voters has reached 1,022, 507 representing 50.97% of registrants. Moreover, 829,353 voters representing 41% of total registrants are under the age of thirty.

It should be indicated that the CEC has, for the first time, introduced E-registration last February through a special application on its webpage that allows for the continuous registration of first time voters in Palestine and abroad. The registry update process included data entry of new registrants who turned the legal age of registration of 17 years and above, cancellation of demises, data analysis and the publishing of the updated voters list.
