CEC Requests Official Authorities Facilitate the Nomination Process

Content Manager

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) continues its efforts to ensure that citizens interested in nomination for the 2021 legislative elections are able to complete all procedures and acquire necessary documents, particularly in light of the recent lockdown imposed throughout several governorates to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

To this end, the CEC addressed a letter to the Cabinet requesting that the Cabinet facilitates reviewing procedures in order to ensure a timely response to the letters of resignation submitted by legally eligible groups for the purpose of running in the legislative elections. In response to the CEC’s letter, the General Secretariat of the Cabinet issued a circular addressing Cabinet members, heads of governmental departments, governors, and security force leaders requesting they facilitate obtaining the letters. The Secretariat also informed official authorities to aid in this process as necessary in accordance with the law.

Recently, the CEC also addressed a letter to the Bank of Palestine, emphasizing the importance that one of their branches remains open in the governorates of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, as well as in Gaza, to enable electoral lists to deposit their nomination guarantee amounts to the CEC’s designated Bank of Palestine account. This measure is to ensure that lists have the ability to deposit the required legal fees, which is considered one of the preconditions for a nomination to be accepted.

The CEC also reminds that legislative elections will commence on March 20th for a period of 12 days, ending on the evening of Wednesday, March 31st.
