The CEC Announces the End of the Voter Registration Process

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Ramallah - The CEC commissioners convened at the CEC headquarters in Ramallah yesterday to discuss the latest developments in the voter registry update process, which lasted for eleven days. During the meeting, the CEC confirmed its previous decision to consider today as the last day of registration in the 773 permanent registration centers. However, registration will continue in the CEC district offices throughout the West Bank in the next couple of days. The CEC will also continue to register voters though mobile registration centers until 18 March.

The CEC, upon completion of the registration process, will compile all voter data and publish the preliminary voter registry. This will be immediately followed by the period of exhibition and challenge, which will be conducted from 25 April until 29 April, according to the legal electoral timeline published by the CEC.

The CEC has not been able to register voters in Gaza because its offices there have been closed for more than four months. The CEC maintains hope that voters in Gaza will be able to register and exercise their legal voting rights by participating in the upcoming elections.
