The CEC provides the opportunity for every eligible Palestinian who attained the legal age to be registered in the voters list

High school students In Palestine expressed their joy while participating in the voterszzz*z registry update process which will last until next Sunday, 1 April, 2007 to enable them to register their names.

Sazzz*zed Khalel, a high school student in Ramallah headed today to the voters registry center in the city to register himself. Sazzz*zed pointed out to the importance of registration to guarantee his right in participating in any future electoral process by saying that "I should seize this opportunity to prove my right as a Palestinian eligible registrant who attained the legal age to be registered ".

The CEC opened 574 registry update centers in all Palestinian districts on Wednesday, 82/3/2007 for five days. 12,362 Palestinians were registered in the first tow days of the process, 8,524 of which in the West Bank and 3,838 In Gaza Strip. 34 Citizens submitted applications to correct their registration information along with the necessary proof.

 

 

As for Dareen Abdullah who was also happy when she submitted her ID card in the updating center to have her name registered, she said that it’s the right of every eligible Palestinian to register his/ her name in the voters list since the existence of an accurate and comprehensive list is one of the most important conditions for the integrity of any electoral process.

The CEC announced earlier that the updating process is an annual procedure. The CEC conducted an educational campaign to raise the public awareness of the process and its procedures through the distribution of educational brochures on schools, government and civil institutions. The CEC also broadcasted Radio and TV spots and published ads in local newspapers , radio and TV sets for a period of ten days.

In addition to this, the CEC operated the toll- free telephone line 1800 300 400 to answer citizens enquiries regarding the updating process. The toll- free line received more than 2,200 calls until the first day of the process.

A new banner for the registry update process was added to the CECzzz*zs website www.elections.ps containing all related information as well as a list of the updating centers.
