The CEC conducts meetings with civil society organizations, observation and partisan entities in Gaza Strip

Sunday, March 18, 2007

The CEC arranged a number of meetings with the local and partisan entities accredited with the CEC and civil society organizations in Gaza Strip. These meetings come as part of the CECzzz*zs preparations for the updating of the voters list process which will be conducted in the period 28/3 until 1/4/2007 to illustrate the importance of the updating process.

Khan Younis electoral district arranged a meeting with representatives of a number of local observation entities and NGOs to illustrate the purpose of updating the voters list and discuss ways of cooperation between the CEC and such organizations in educating potential registrants and urging them to register or check their information especially those born in 1989 or before.

The meeting with the neighborhoods committees focused on what the committees can provide in terms of educating registrants and helping in finding alternative centers within the population centers they represent. The CEC decided to use alternative registration centers as a result of not receiving a response from the Ministry of Education to the CECzzz*zs requests to use the public schools as registry updating centers.

On its part, Rafah electoral district stressed the importance of renewing the accreditation of political parties agents accredited with the CEC during the assigned period from 12/3 until 20/3 and issuing them accreditation cards to enable them to enter the registration centers.

In its meeting with the civil society organizations, Rafah district discussed the voters registry updating procedure and illustrated the needed documents, the possibility of registering of relatives by proxy and by a special attorney for non relatives, the remote office registration for those who work or live in remote places and the educational campaign the CEC intends to conduct prior to the updating process.
