Monday, March 12, 2007

The CEC announces the commencement of the accreditation process for local observation bodies and political partieszzz*z agents on Monday, March 12th until March 20th in order to enable observation bodies to monitor the updating of the voters list process.

The CEC is the body entitled of inviting and accrediting of observation bodies and political parties agents who wish to observe the updating of the voters list process which will be conducted during the period of 28/3-1/4/2007. This procedure is necessary to ensure the integrity and transparency of the updating process.

The CEC would like to indicate that the observation bodies which were accredited in previous periods are automatically considered accredited and there will be no need to submit new accreditation applications. However, they still need to update their information with the CEC and apply for observers accreditation cards to enable their observers to enter the registration updating centers. The previously issued accreditation cards are automatically considered cancelled and their holders will not be allowed into the updating centers.

New observation bodies which were not accredited before will have to complete an accreditation form for local observation bodies and obtain local observers accreditation procedures and code of conduct. As for the accredited observation bodies, they may apply for new accreditation applications for their agents who will be observing the updating process.

In the latest Legislative Elections, the CEC accredited more than 250 local observation bodies and 18,000 local observers. In addition to this and in previous periods, the CEC accredited 14 political parties that named accredited agents to observe the electoral process.
