The CEC expresses its discontent over the delay of the transfer of funds for its polling staff employees

Tuesday, April 18, 2006

The CEC expresses its discontent over the delay of the transfer of funds designated to pay the salaries for the polling staff who worked for the CEC during the latest PLC elections held on 25 January, 2006. The CEC continues to follow up this issue with the Ministry of Finance and the Arab Bank.

The CEC confirms that the funds were transferred earlier by the donors to a CEC sub-account with the Ministry of Finance. The CEC requested that the funds be transferred to its account so that it can pay the salaries of the polling staff. The Ministry of Finance has refused to transfer the funds because the Arab Bank, which is the body responsible for this transfer has refused to do so. The CEC recently addressed this issue with the Arab Bank but, to this date, it has received no response.

The CEC affirms that such obstacles may have a negative impact on the CEC's credibility in the future in terms of its financial dealings with its suppliers and employees. The CEC appeals to the Ministry of Finance and the Arab Bank to settle this issue as soon as possible and to transfer the 3 million USD to the CEC's account.
