The CEC chairman meets with the head of the European Union election observation delegation

The CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir met today at the CEC HQ in Ramallah with the Head of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Delegation, Mrs. Véronique De Keyser in preparation for the upcoming PLC elections scheduled for January 25th, 2006.

Mrs. De Keyser confirmed the importance of the participation of Jerusalemites in the elections and promised to provide assistance to resolve the issue of election arrangements in Jerusalem.

Mrs. De Keyser indicated that the first group of international observers has arrived in Ramallah to observe the elections. The number of international observers from the EU delegation is expected to reach at least 170 on election day.

Dr. Nasir informed Mrs. De Keyser that the CEC is ready to conduct elections on the assigned date and he informed Mrs. De Keyser of the progress of the electoral process. The nomination period ended on December 14th. Dr. Nasir reiterated that the CEC will publish the final list of candidates on January 2nd, 2006.

At present, there are 30 international observers from the EU in the Palestinian territories.
