CEC Signs Two Agreements to Fund Voter Education Projects in Gaza Strip

Central Elections Commission (CEC) signed two cooperation agreements, one with Wefaq Society for Women and Child Care in Rafah, and the other with Bunyan Association for Community Development in Gaza City, in order to implement Voter Education projects in the governorates of Gaza Strip.

The Regional Office Director, Jamil Al-Khaldi, signed the agreements in the regional headquarters of the CEC in Gaza, with both the Chairman of Wefaq Society, Ashraf Yousef, and the Executive Director of Bunyan Association, Ehsan Awwad.

Wefaq Society will be implementing a European Union (EU) funded project, during the upcoming August, which aims to raise youth awareness about the elections and political participation. In addition to visiting a number of institutions whose work is related to the democratic process and its components, and providing them with practical experience in performing the electoral process by implementing an Election Simulation. It is worth noting that 50 young men and women between the ages of 18-22 years old are participating in this project.

As for Bunyan Association, they will organize an educational summer camp about the components of the democratic process. 70 adolescents between the ages of 13 -16 years old from the governorates of Gaza and Khan-Younis will participate in this summer camp, which will include different activities such as Mock Elections, which will provide them with the electoral knowledge and awareness, as well as the practical experience to perform the elections.

It is worth mentioning that CEC is implementing Voter Education and awareness projects, funded by the EU, in cooperation with Civil Society Organizations in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as part of its annual activities throughout the year, in order to provide different groups of the society with the electoral knowledge.
