CEC meets with Local Elections Observing Bodies

The Central Elections Commission (CEC) held a meeting today, Monday, with representatives of 20 organizations that participated in observing the 2021 Local Elections. The meeting aimed at discussing the notes and recommendations provided by the observing Bodies.

At the beginning of the meeting, which was held at the CEC headquarters in Albireh, Hisham Kuhail, Executive Director of CEC emphasized the important role of the Elections Observers and Observing Organizations. He stressed on the commission’s interest in the notes and recommendations provided by partner organizations in a way that contributes to improve the commission’s working mechanisms in future Electoral Processes.

The meeting discussed the notes of the observers’ reports about the process of the Local Elections. Taking into consideration their proposals and recommendations regarding the required amendments to the Electoral Law, and those related to the commission’s work and procedures.

By the end of the meeting, the attendees agreed on the necessity of holding a series of future meetings and workshops to continue the discussion, and explore ways to improve joint work mechanisms between CEC and partner organizations that are active in the fields of democracy and human rights.
