The Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chairman, Hanna Nasir, briefed the Spanish Consul General, Ambassador Ignacio García Valdecasas, on the preparations that the CEC is taking to hold the upcoming 2021 Palestinian elections. This meeting, held at the CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh, reflects the CEC’s ongoing efforts to inform ambassadors and accredited country representatives to the State of Palestine of the preparations being undertaken in order to organize the elections.
Chairman Nasir detailed the stages of the electoral process to Ambassador Valdecasas, and explained the legal calendar for each stage. The Ambassador was informed of the finalization of the voter registration process in February as the end of the next phase of the electoral process (exhibition and challenge) approaches on the evening of March 3, 2021.
The Chairman also informed Ambassador Valdecasas of the potential obstacles to the electoral process presented by the Israeli occupation, and urged the Spanish government to work to facilitate the Palestinian elections in Jerusalem.
