Palestine Participates in the Arab EMBs Annual Conference

State of Palestine, represented by the Central Elections Commission (CEC), participated in the 4th annual conference of Arab Electoral Administrations held in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, during the period 4-6 March 2020.

CEC delegation comprised of Secretary General, Lamis Al-Alami, CEO, Hisham Kuhail, and Head of Public Relations Department, Fareed Tumallah. The conference attended by Arab State members of the Arab EMBs organization and regional and international institutions discussed administrative and financial matters of the organization and elected Mohammad Fal Walad Bilal, Chairman of the Mauritanian Independent National Elections Commission as Chairman of the Arab EMBs for the current term.

On the sidelines of the meeting, a regional conference was held on the role of media in enhancing the integrity and credibility of elections, during which participants from Arab countries and a number of international organizations and experts discussed methods to enhance the role of media in disseminating electoral awareness, monitoring elections as well as best practices to combat spread of false news. Working papers and interventions were presented by experts and representatives of Arab electoral administrations. The conference resulted in recommendations on the necessary interventions and activities to achieve close cooperation between electoral administrations and the media.

It should be indicated that Arab EMBs is a regional organization based in Amman-Jordan, which was established in 2015 and include in its membership electoral administrations from Arab countries where Palestine is a founding member.
