Formation of the Arab Regional Organization of EMBs

The second meeting of the Committee of Elections Management Bodies (EMBs) was recently held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, from 19-21 January 2015. This meeting is the second following the founding meeting held in Cordoba-Spain last June.

During the meeting, the draft charter of the Arab Regional Organization of EMBs was approved. The establishment of the Organization aims at coordinating efforts of EMBs in the Arab region and sharing knowledge and expertise in the fields of elections and democracy. The official launching of the Organization is anticipated to take place next April.

The meeting was attended by CEO, Hisham Kuhail and the Head of Candidates and Political Parties section, Anis Abu Sba. It should be indicated that the CEC is a founding member of the newly formed Organization which includes in its membership, in addition to Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Libya.
