The CEC announces the end of accreditation of journalists and observers

Basel Alqasem

The CEC announced today the end of accreditation of observers and media representatives which commenced last March in preparations for the upcoming local elections.

During this period the CEC accredited 500 local and 130 international media representatives. A total of 1400 local and international observers and guests were also accredited representing 70 local and international observation organizations.

Accredited observers and journalists were provided with accreditation cards which allow them access to electoral centers and facilities to monitor the electoral process and obtain credible information. The CEC has encouraged participation of organizations working in the fields of gender and disability as observers and journalists.

It should be indicated that the Palestinian elections law grants observers and journalists the right to enter polling centers and to freely observe elections within a set of regulations which guarantee non-interference in the electoral process and are in compliance with international election standards.
