Basel Alqasem

The CEC Commissioners, headed by Chairman Dr. Hanna Nasir, met today at CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh and through video conference with Gaza Regional Office to review and decide on the nomination applications of 760 electoral lists to ensure they meet the legal nomination requirements.

Accordingly, the CEC accepted the nomination of 739 lists which met the legal conditions and rejected 6 for failing to meet the legal requirements, whereas 15 lists have withdrawn their nominations. The CEC will notify the representatives of rejected lists of its decisions and inform them of the possibility of objecting CEC’s decisions within three days.

According to the data presented at the end of the meeting, 152 local authorities had more than one nominated list which means elections will take place in these localities, whereas 179 localities had only one nominated list and 56 localities in which no electoral lists have been nominated. In addition, there were 4 localities in which one incomplete list in each have submitted nomination applications.

The CEC will publish the preliminary register of electoral lists and their candidates on Sunday, 9 April at the premises of CEC’s district offices in the West Bank, local authorities councils and webpage: www. Elections.ps in accordance with the published legal elections timeline.

The preliminary register will be published for three days to enable electoral lists and candidates to verify their data and citizens to review the names of the lists and candidates and submit any objections to the CEC on the nomination of a list or a candidate if deemed illegal within three days.

The CEC decisions on objections may be appealed before the competent court within three days of issue. The Court adjudicates appeals within five days of submission and issues its decisions which are considered final.
