Today, the Elections Working Group (EWG) held its regular meeting at CEC premises in Al-Bireh.

CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir discussed the results of the recent voter registry update indicating that more that 900 thousand new voters were registered since 2004, thus raising the total number of registrants to around 2 million voters. Dr. Nasir also stressed CEC’s readiness to conduct elections once called.

On his part, Deputy CEO Ashraf Shuaibi, briefed EWG members of the CEC’s current projects i.e. increasing awareness and electoral participation among Persons with Disabilities, Women Political Empowerment, Establishment of new premises for CEC and Launching of newly formulated Arab Electoral Management Body scheduled to take place next month in Beirut.

It should be indicted that EWG is comprised of a pool of donors who meet regularly and acts as a forum for coordination and exchange between donors and the CEC on issues related to elections in Palestine.
