The CEC publishes the preliminary election results

In a press conference held at CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh today, CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, announced the preliminary results for the second complementary elections held yesterday in 8 localities in the West Bank.

Dr. Nasir stated that the total number of electors reached 11049 with participation percentage of 56.8% of the total eligible voters (19429). The percentage of blank ballots was 1.2% blank and 2.3% for void ballots. Prior to the announcement of results, the CEC held a meeting to endorse results and review objections by observation bodies.

It should be indicated that the preliminary results are subject to appeal before the competent court as article 55 of local election law states that’’ the voter, candidate of his/her agent may appeal election results before the competent court within a week of the announcement of results. The court shall adjucate appeals within five working days of submission of appeals.’’ If the court decides to cancel elections in certain localities, other elections should be conducted within four weeks of the court decision.

Upon processing of appeals, the CEC will issue winning certificates for each local council with the list of winner candidates and submit to the Ministry of Local Government.
