CEC participates in the meeting of elections management bodies in the Arab World

Represented by its Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Hisham Kuhail, the CEC participated in the elections management bodies meeting held in the League of Arab States Headquarters in Cairo during April 9-10th, 2008.

The meeting discussed the possible means of developing regional cooperation in the field of elections, most importantly, the establishment of Arab Forum for the development of elections, the forum aims at:

• Defining the challenges facing the development of the electoral process in the Arab world and the proposed solutions to overcome them.
• Encouraging mutual dialogue and exchange of experiences and experiments to deal with such challenges.
• Providing technical resources in the Arabic language on elections to be the base for electoral knowledge to be developed by the countries of the region.
• Defining the standards and principles governing the electoral process to ensure its integrity and freedom
• Establishing mechanisms to ensure continued cooperation in the field of elections between the Arab countries.

The League will follow up the establishment of the forum which will constitute the base for elections development in the Arab World and will enhance mutual cooperation between the various Arab countries.
