The CEC concludes a two day visit to Gaza

Today, CEC delegation concluded a two-day visit to Gaza Strip after a series of meetings with officials there.

CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, described the visit as ‘’ successful’’ where the CEC met with Mr. Ismail Haniyeh and informed him of preparations for voter registry update in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. On his part, Mr. Haniyeh welcomed the work of the Commission and urged on providing the necessary facilitations for CEC Staff.

The CEC also met with representatives of political parties and CSOs in Gaza yesterday and called on them to participate in monitoring the registration process and encourage citizens to participate in the registration which will take place from 11-18 February 2013.

Today, the CEC also held two separate meetings with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Interior in Gaza in order to coordinate for the recruitment of teachers as registration staff and the utilization of schools as registration centers. Similar meetings with the Ministries of Interior and Education in the West Bank will be held next week for the same purpose.
