The CEC writes to the Cabinet

Following the recent reconciliation agreement, the CEC has sent a letter to the Prime Minister Salam Fayyad providing a number of possibilities with regard to local elections and indicating the minimum amount of time needed to prepare for elections in the Gaza Strip. In the letter, the CEC has asked to be informed of the Cabinet’s decision regarding elections before the scheduled nomination period begins on 25 May 2011. The current electoral timeline was set following the Cabinet’s decision of 8 February 2011 to hold local elections in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip on 9 July 2011.
