21 February, Ramallah – A memorandum of understanding on local elections was signed by the CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Mr. Mohammad Abu Zeid. The memorandum enables the CEC to use the ministry’s staff and facilities in carrying out its mandate of implementing local elections.
In accordance with the memorandum, the CEC may use the ministry’s schools as registration, exhibition, polling and counting centers during the electoral period. The CEC will also hire temporary electoral staff from among the ministry’s employees. Many of the ministry’s staff have received training by the CEC in previous years.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the CEC’s CEO, Mr. Hisham Kuhail, and the Director of Training and Supervision at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Mr. Tharwat Zeid.
