The Central Elections Commission (CEC) hosted the meeting of “National Spatial Data Infrastructure” project working committee, attended by representatives and specialists in the area of maps and geographical data from all Ministries, local organizations, and interested private sector companies. The meeting aims to establish a national system for maps and a database for the geospatial information systems in Palestine, to organize the collection, sharing and development of this information and data, prevent repetition and organize access permissions for organizations and individuals.
Throughout the day’s sessions, participants and attendees discussed the developments in the IT system relevant to the national infrastructure for geospatial information, the definitions of terms, information and its standardization. Moreover, participants agreed on the action plan for the next phase, including the baseline maps, aerial photos, and the criteria, specifications and uses of such photos as well as its degree of significance.
It is worth mentioning that the National Spatial Data Infrastructure project “SDI” is funded by GIZ, and aims to enhance the work of official and private organizations interested in the sector of maps, to contribute to providing solutions for the environmental, social and economic challenges.
