Today, Monday, the Central Elections Commission, headed by Dr. Rami Hamdallah, held its first meeting after the issuance of the presidential decree restructuring it.
At the beginning of the meeting, the members of the commission had a moment of silence for the Palestinian martyrs who died as a result of the occupation’s continued aggression against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, wishing recovery for the wounded and freedom for all prisoners.
The CEC chairperson, Dr. Rami Hamdallah confirmed the continuity of the CEC’s work in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, independence and impartiality, and that the committee will remain at the same distance from all Palestinian factions and organizations, especially since he and the current members of the CEC have contributed greatly over the long years of their work in building and consolidating the principles of its transparency and integrity, as a prestigious national professional institution locally, regionally and globally.
Dr.Hamdallah expressed his thanks to Dr. Hanna Nasir, the former Chairperson of the CEC, for his great efforts since its establishment as a supreme national figure. He also thanked Hisham Kuhail for what he gave to the institution during his work as CEO during the past years.
During the meeting, the CEC reviewed administrative reports, discussed financial and technical matters, and decided to appoint Mr. Ashraf Al-Shuaibi as CEO, who has held a number of positions within the CEC since its establishment in 2002.
It is noteworthy that the Chairperson and members of the CEC hold their positions on a voluntary basis without receiving financial compensation for their work, and they are appointed by presidential decree for a period of four years, renewable according to the law.
