The Central Elections Commission (CEC) published today the final register of electoral lists and candidates for the 2018 re-run local elections scheduled on 22 September 2018.
The number of local councils in which more than one list was nominated and local elections will be held on September 22 are 5 local bodies, with 13 lists running for 113 seats, with candidates running for 53 seats. There are also six local bodies in which only one list has been nominated and thus will be announced by acclamation by all Council seats on the day the results are announced.
Elections will be held in five localities which had more than one electoral list nominated in each. Fourteen lists including 120 candidates will be competing for 53 local councils designated for the said localities. Whereas, six localities had only one list nominated in each, thus, will win councils seats by acclamation.
In the same vein, election campaigning was also launched today and will last for 13 days during which lists and their candidates will publish their electoral platforms. Elections campaigning regulations were previously published onto CEC’s webpage. Citizens may review the regulations and submit complaints in the event of violations.
