The CEC has published today the final register of electoral lists and candidates competing in the upcoming local elections through its webpage.
In an official statement, the CEC announced that the number of localities where more than one electoral list is nominated, thus elections will take place on the 13th of May is 145. The total number of nominated lists in these localities is 536 with 4411 candidates competing for a total of 1561 council seats designated for these localities.
The CEC has also announced that 181 localities had only one nominated electoral list in each, Thus will be announced to have won all council seats, by acclamation on the day of declaration of election results.
The number of candidates in these lists are 1683 representing the number of designated seats.
There are also a total of 65 localities in which elections will not be held (9 localities due to having incomplete nominated lists and 56 as a result of having no nominated. The decision on the formation of local councils in such localities will be through the Cabinet.
As the data of the register demonstrates, the total number of female candidates has reached 1584 representing 26 % of the 6094 total number of candidates. Eight lists are headed by female candidates while two lists have only female candidates
It should be indicated that that today also marks the commencement of election campaigning activities for 13 days according to law and elections timeline.
The CEC has earlier published the elections campaigning regulations on its webpage. Any complaints with regards to violations of regulations by the lists or candidates may be submitted to the CEC through special forms.
