The CEC held two separate meetings today with representatives of political parties and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in its premises in Al-Bireh to discuss the upcoming 2017 Local Council Elections arrangements.
CEC Chairman, Dr. Hanna Nasir, discussed CEC’s preparations and plans for the upcoming elections scheduled in May 2017 in light of the Cabinte’s decision and outcomes of the recent CEC’s delegation meetings with Hamas, political factions and CSOs in Gaza Strip last week. Hamas has officially informed the CEC of its rejection to participation in elections and refusal to allow the conduct of elections in the Strip.
Dr. Nasir stated that the CEC hopes for all political parties to participate in the elections which were called to take place in one day in all districts. He also confirmed that the CEC will exert all efforts to ensure the integrity and transparency of elections in accordance with the law and CEC’s procedures, and in cooperation with all stakeholders, including the Government, political factions and local and international observation missions.
On their part, attendees confirmed their support of the elections’ decision, CEC’s work and the integrity of the electoral process.
