The CEC met today with representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in its premises in Ramallah to update them on the progress of elections preparations in light of the recent developments following CEC’s visit to Gaza yesterday and the guaranteed facilitations the CEC received to hold elections in the strip as scheduled.
During the meeting, the CEC confirmed that elections in both the West Bank and Gaza will be held according to the same set of procedures and standards stipulated in the elections law. The CEC briefed representatives of the elections timeline, where the first stage of registration, exhibition and challenge will be launched from 23-27 July 2016 in all national districts.
The CEC also confirmed its commitment to the principles of transparency and integrity of elections as the process will be fully monitored by local and international observation missions and CSOs. The CEC will provide the necessary facilitations for accredited observers and journalists that enable them to perform their work.
The CEC has addressed invitations to local CSOs and diplomatic missions working in Palestine to observe elections and submit accreditation applications as of 10 July .
