The Central Elections Commission (CEC) has launched today online registration for first time Palestinian voters residing in Palestine and abroad coinciding with the annual registration process the CEC holds in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to register eligible registrants in high schools.
For this occasion, the CEC held a press conference today at the premises of the Spanish School in Al-Bireh. During his opening speech, CEC Chairman Dr. Hanna Nasir, stated that online registration is applied for the first time in Palestine and is available now for Palestinian holders of personal identification cards in Palestine and abroad and who were not previously registered in any of the registration drives held in previous years.
Dr. Nasir stressed that online registration does not mean the CEC will rely solely on this approach to register voters during elections. However, this method will be considered complementary to the regular paper registration exercise and will facilitate CEC’s work through minimizing effort and cost.
Dr. Nasir also confirmed that online registration conditions are the same as provided in the law.
The CEC would like to confirm that registration will be continuous and available starting of today through a special online application available through CEC’s website: www.elections.ps. Non registered Palestinians are now able to log in and register their information in a fast and secure way.
Online registration application is also available for non registered Palestinians who are 17 years and above and wish to register their information according to the localities where they reside upon meeting the registration requirements stipulated in the law.
It should be indicated that the CEC conducts annual registration exercises according to law to update the voters’ registry and maintain readiness for any upcoming elections as registration is a prerequisite for voting.
