The CEC concludes the Electoral Reform Project

Today, the CEC concluded the Electoral Reform Project which aimed at proposing legal amendments to the existing Local Elections Law. The CEC organized a closing ceremony with participation of Secretary-Generals of political parties and factions, representatives of CSOs and public institutions.
In his opening speech, CEC Chairman Hanna Nasir, stated that the proposed amendments to the law were formulated in consensus with representatives of political parties, CSOs and relevant public institutions and tackled legal gaps and technical issues related to Local Elections.
Dr. Nasir added that CEC’s role was confined to facilitating discussions and coordinating the sessions of the drafting committee. Dr. Nasir stressed that the CEC is an independent organization thus, doesn’t have the legal jurisdiction to amend the law.
The closing ceremony of the project, which is funded by European Commission included presentations of activities, the formulated legal amendments and lobbying plans by participants to ensure the endorsement of the law by decision-makers.
