The CEC conducted today a training workshop for supervisors from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Gaza as part of ‘’voter education in schools’’ project that is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Friends school in Ramallah and funded by the EC.
Seven supervisors were selected from seven education directorates in Gaza to undertake training. They, on their part, will later on train around 130 teachers on how to supervise mock elections for their students. In its first stage, the project will target around 10 thousand second graders in 28 basic schools in Gaza and 100 schools in the West Bank. Through the incorporation of complementary education methods, students will learn the principles of democracy and elections as they will organize mock elections to select their favorite animal under the supervision of their teachers.
The workshop was attended by CEC Secretary General Mr. Samih Shbaiba and Commissioner Yousif Awadallah. In his opening speech, Mr. Awadallah stressed the important role of the CEC in instilling the democratic cultural values in the Palestinian society in general and among youth in particular as well as supporting the educational system through the various activities the CEC implements in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
