The CEC meets with representatives of the Palestinian factions

The CEC held a meeting with the various national factions groups in light of the government's decision to hold local council elections on July 9th.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the CEC Dr. Hanna Nasir, stressed that this meeting comes  within the framework of continuous communication between the Commission and its partners, especially political parties, and reiterated the readiness of the Commission to conduct local elections on the scheduled date.
 
Party representatives stressed  the importance of strengthening the Commission's role and powers with respect to elections and  the need for the election process to be carried forward to completion. They also emphasized the support of national factions for the CEC which will send  a strong message to the local community about the commitment towards elections and encourage their participation in the electoral process.

The attendants also stressed the importance of including the Gaza Strip in the upcoming local elections, and the need to push towards this direction with a promise to work towards this vision.

During the meeting the Commission briefed representatives on preparations for holding local elections, as well as the schedule for the electoral process which will start on March 9th  with the registration of new voters.

On February 8th the Palestinian government has issued the current decision to conduct local elections in all Palestinian districts on July 9th.
