CEC chairman Dr. Hanna Nasir met today; Tuesday with the British Consul General; Ms. Diane Corner. Deputy CEO Mr. Ashraf Shuaibi was also present. As well as Ms. Daisy Organ; head of the Political Team in the British Consulate.
Dr. Nasir informed the British representatives, during their meeting which was held in Al Bireh – Ramallah, of the details for the (First Phase) of the 2021 Local Elections. Which took place in December 2021. He also highlighted the CEC’s ongoing work to hold the (Second Phase) of the Local Elections in the 26th of March in the West Bank. As well as indicating that, the CEC has exhausted numerous efforts with all parties to try to hold the Local Elections in the Gaza Strip.
CEC Chairman, indicated that the Voter’s Registration, Exhibition and Challenge period has been completed and that preparations for the Nomination period commenced. He also explained some of the most important and most expected challenges that may arise throughout the electoral process. Especially regarding holding it in Gaza at a later time.
Dr. Nasir emphasized the importance of Local and International Observation in the Elections. More specifically in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the Electoral Process. Thus inviting the British Consulate to participate in observing the Local Elections.
