Voter education campaigns are designed to convey a variety of messages to potential voters. The messages are tailored to two specific phases of the electoral process: voter registration and polling.
Messages for voter registration:
- Registration process and timeframe
- Who is an eligible voter
- Location of registration centers
Messages for Polling:
- Get out the vote
- Polling locations
- Step-by-step explanation of polling process
- How to fill out a ballot
Many communication tools are used to reach the public. Posters, billboards, banners, fliers, and stickers are the main printed materials. More direct tactics include passing out fliers door-to-door and vans with loudspeakers driving through districts making announcements and distributing fliers. Hundreds of television and radio spots are played on local and international channels.
Partnerships with local councils, universities, and civil society organizations extend the reach of the CEC’s voter education campaigns.
Current and past radio, television, and print voter education materials are available on this website.
Voters with specific questions on registration or polling may contact the CEC’s toll free call center. The primary function of the call center, particularly close to polling day, is to provide quick information to eligible voters, especially about his/her polling location. The call center is equipped with computers that are linked to a database with the records of all registered voters.
