There are several laws that regulate the electoral process in Palestine.
The Basic Law is considered the constitution for the Palestinian National Authority and defines the system of government (parliamentary democratic system with a president and legislative council members elected directly by the public).
The Elections Law regulates the procedures and instructions for organizing the electoral process. For example, it regulates the eligibility for candidates and voters, the timelines for the processes, and electoral campaigning finance. Moreover, the Election Law grants the president authority to appoint the CEC commissioners, to determine the date for elections to be held and to appoint the Electoral Cases Court through presidential decrees.
